Hello, I’m Michelle from Opting Out, based in bohemian and rather queer Brighton, UK. Subscribers can enjoy regular posts around slow living, rest, and opting out of burnout culture, plus my weekly Weekend Mood Board of what’s currently inspiring me. Paid subscribers get access to ALL my work, including the Slow Reading Group, live Co-Resting sessions, yoga nidra audios and pre-recorded full-length restorative yoga classes.
Its my dream to create a community of misfits, questioners and resters. Are you in? ✨
What I’m reading:
Finally finished the second book in Knausgaard’s six-part autofiction extravaganza. This was a re-read, and it’s still amazing.
What I’m enjoying:
Not really being on social media, except for the odd post here and there. I deleted the apps from my phone, so I’m just using on the laptop, which is a very different relationship, virtually no scrolling. Highly recommended!
What I’m listening to:
Really enjoyed Cerys Matthews’ recent radio show exploring the words and music of James Joyce’s Ulysses for Bloomsday in June.
What I’m Noticing:
The bees getting busy at work on some lavender.
The co-regulation that happens between me and my son:
What I’m eating:
Lots of yummy homemade Persian food, including Muhammara dip and a chickpea, feta and pomegranate salad. Great in the heatwave.
What I’m Looking Forward To:
My Bodhisattva vow ceremony this weekend.
A readers’ and writers’ picnic in a local park.
What’s Inspiring Me:
Susan Burton and her work with formerly incarcerated women in LA.
Taste as literacy - “every time you choose what not to consume, you’re protecting the integrity of your focus” 💣.

Struggling with tough emotions, fear, illness, or self-sabotaging patterns?
The Feeding Your Demons® process offers a powerful and transformative way through. This fully guided visualization helps you turn inner blocks into allies. You’ll meet your “demon,” hear what it really needs, and feed it a healing nectar that brings lasting peace. Then you’ll transform it into a helpful ally.
Instead of fighting your demons (which only makes them stronger), this method teaches you to face and nourish them — unlocking freedom, clarity, and deep emotional healing.
Ready to stop the inner battle and start transforming?
You might use this process to explore your blocks around allowing yourself to rest, guilt around doing nothing, the drive to constantly be productive, the inner critic that tells you you’re lazy for resting…
